I have to start with the Junk Trip, a common Saturday event, it took me nearly a year to actually go on one. I’ve been invited many times and kept finding reasons not to go – wow was I an idiot. This is was the best day. The weather was perfect. We drank wine, dove off of the boat, swam, ate amazing fresh seafood and played a pretty competitive game of Poker. And all with some old and new friends – it was GREAT!

The Tales
Shek-O is my absolute favorite spot. Here’s how the day goes. I take the MTR to Chai Wan, hop in a cab for 10 minute, by a HK$5 grass mat from the little old ladies, bake myself for a few hours, walk down the little lane to Blacksheep for tomato salad and Sangria, proceed to the Back Bar for a drink and the sunset, catch a cab home. The perfect escape whenever the sky is blue.

Lamma Island is a place that time forgot; part old Chinese fishing village, part Hippie enclave, this is a great place to hang out with down to earth ex-pats and their dogs, drink beer all afternoon; college style, and take a hike to the beach should the mood strike. Bonus is that the 40 minute ferry ride provides a fantastic tour of all of HK island.
The Ferry ride out to Lamma Island..
Walking onto Lamma from the ferry. You can see the long strip of seafood restaurants and bars that dot the easy access beach (and the one you would never swim in). To the left is the remnents of the fishing villas haphazardly built cliffside.

Stanley Beach is a one option and easy to choose if you want to do a bit of shopping; as the Stanley market is filled with clothes, jewelry and souvenirs. The beach gets rather crowded and it’s better not to think about how dirty the water could be. Just swim and take a shower once you get home. Or get rent a ski boat and go beyond the shark net!
